Al Gore just won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to put the brakes on global warming. This is a departure from the traditional awarding of the prize to someone who helped resolve armed conflicts, an application which has broadened in recent years to include alleviating poverty, hunger, human rights abuses and disease.
