The El Yunque rain forest in Puerto Rico is a mountainous subtropical rain forest on the Luqillo Mountains. The eastern side of the mountains gets copious amounts of rain because when air hits the other side, it rises and cools, then releases the rain on the eastern side.
The forest features rivers and waterfalls, and species of animals and plants that have adapted to the copious year-round rainfall.
The tops of the peaks feature more wind and rain, and host fewer species, including some stunted or dwarf trees.
I'm browsing tourist spots in Puerto Rico because in a bit over three weeks, some of us from the dance studio are going there to participate in the Caribbean Dancesport Classic. We'll compete for two days and have one free for sightseeing. I'd like to hike around the rain forest for a day. The others are talking about parasailing, but I'm afraid of heights, so I think it's unlikely to happen...for me, anyway. Doing much the same entries as we did in the Jacksonville Dancing with the Stars, hopefully better.
