What's a girl to do?
I just saw a news clip on the AT&T homepage, about Parins Hilton being sentenced to 45 days in jail for a parole violation. During the trial, her publicist testified, saying that he had told her that she could drive to and from work aftr 30 days. The heiress's mother was present and called the trial a mockery. The newscaster said the judge had compared the publicist to Cyrano de Bergerac, falling on his sword for his master.
Great stuff. My thoughts:
1) The first thing that struck me was that I didn't remember Cyrano having a master, let alone falling on his sword for him.
2) But my dominant thought was: Paris Hilton has a mother!!! For some reason, I had assumed that her mother was dead or something, and that there was no one to teach poor Paris right from wrong, or at least to dress her, or rein her in a bit. Now I have to face the fact that it could be much worse, and maybe her sainted mother does rein her in and dress her more conservatively than she otherwise would.
3) Paris Hilton has a job! It's understandable then that she needed to drive, otherwise she might lose her job! And not be able to pay the bills! And be evicted!
C'mon. The girl's lucky enough to easily afford a chauffeur 24-7 to take her anywhere she wants in her $190K Bentley. Why the hell did she have to violate probation. And not just once.
According to this , she was busted for DUI last September, and lost her license and got 36 months probation. She continued to drive, and was stopped by the highway patrol in January, signed a statement acknowledging that she was not supposed to be driving, and was let off with a warning. Just over a month later, she was pulled over for speeding at night with her headlights off (uh oh). For another (much funnier) version of the story, go here.
I think she took her chances and lost. Perhaps she is arrogant enough to think that she is rich and famous, so no one would touch her. Now that would make a travesty of the law. Anyway, maybe this will protect the people who might otherwise have been on the road at the same time.
I know that if I were as visible as Paris Hilton and on probation I'd have a whole stable of chauffeurs ready to do my driving, at all hours. With the life she leads, it would probably be a good idea anyway.
And speaking of visibility, what are the chances that someone as visible as she, in a car like that, could fly under the radar for 36 month?
I'll bet her next car will have automatic headlights.

I think she could go in like Naomi and just rock the joint! ;) (Hot pink goes well with black and white stripes, after all.)
