-Japan has more than 13 million golfers but only 1,200 golf courses.
-Fewer people golf on Tuesday than any other day of the week.
-Eight per cent of all money spent on sporting goods in the United States is spent on golf equipment.
-Before 1850, most golf balls were stuffed with feathers.
-Golf was banned in England in 1457 because it was a distraction from archery.
-Tiger Woods's caddy made $1 million in the year 2000.
-"Golf" probably comes from the Dutch, "kolf". which means "club".
-Golf club Alan Shepard used on the moon: a six-iron.
-The world's first golf rule book was published in Scotland in 1764.
-The first course with 18 holes was St. Andrew's, in Scotland, in 1764.
-When it was introduced in 1848, the modern golf ball was called a "gutta-percha" ball.
-More people die playing golf than any other sport. Leading cause of death: heart attacks and strokes. (I don't have the statistics, but I'd venture a guess that it is because more people play golf than any other sport...particularly, more people in the age bracket that has heart attacks and strokes.)
How weird! I was at Borders today looking around and ended up in the humor section where I picked up Uncle John's Supremely Satisfying Bathroom Reader. I had never heard of these and thought it might be fun for my husband and I. And now you're writing about one!
