I was listening to "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me" on NPR this morning, and one of the stories was about an LG phone, the LG 4100. It is a huge hit in Korea, but hasn't been available in the U.S.
The LG 4100 is a breathalyzer-equipped phone. You breathe into a sensor and in a few minutes it tells you if you are within the legal limits to drive.
Or dial. An added feature keeps you from drinking and dialing--if your alcohol blood alcohol is at a certain level, certain phone numbers will be blocked, so that you won't have to awaken the next day wondering if you alienated the person you are currently smitten by, or caused your ex to get a restraining order, whether you still have a job. All you have to wonder about is where you are, and whose back that is to your left.
Seriously, considering the high social cost of drinking and driving (or drinking and dialing), I think this type of phone would have strong sales in this country, just as it does in Korea.
