When we decided to vacation in Roan Mountain State Park, one of the attractions was the Rhododendron gardens. In fact, they have an annual Rhododendron Festival, which we managed to miss by a week.
Sandy was much more excited about this than I was, primarily because I wouldn't have recognized a rhododendron if it had jumped up and bit me in the leg. That is no longer the case. Rhododendrons were everywhere.
It had been raining the week before we got there, and we were told that most of the rhododendrons would have become water-soaked and fallen to the ground. Not expecting much, we went to the gardens anyway. We were up in the clouds, which is more evident on the distance shots. These photos are from the paths through the gardens.
And here I thought rhododendrons belonged exclusively to the West Coast! Lovely pictures.

How beautiful. I remember those from West Virginia. I didn't recall that they bloomed this late in the year. Wow.

You captured it beautifully. I, too, have been there on a dewy, post-peak day. Great photography.
