There is also a word, derilinquisition, or derilinquation (?) - I'm not sure what it should be in English, but it's originally Latin, so I'm sure you've got it...

Anyway - the meaning is, if something is left "alone" for so long it seems abandoned, you just go ahead and take it.

I derilinquished (?) two desk lamps that were left outside the 4th floor offices when they vacated before Christmas, and one of the lawyers a desk from there. Noone has asked to have it back, so probably that's why they left it there :)

Please let me know if you find out what the proper translation is..
