I read about Eons.com in a TIME Magazine article entitled "New Tricks for Living Past 96" by Daniel Kadlec. The article focuses on the site's goal of helping you live to close to 100, "while living the biggest life possible." Sounds good to me. As long as there's quality of life. Otherwise, pull that plug, pronto.
The site is free. 70% of new members are between 50 and 60 years of age. The site includes articles, games, chat rooms, a search engine called cRANKy, and lots of advice, pretty much aimed at that demographic.
I enrolled and did the longevity calculator quiz. I think my answers were pretty honest. By their estimate, my calculated longevity is 92 years. And then they give some tips on how to add a few more. Here are the recommendations to me and how much time they will add:
0.5 years Handle stress better
0.25 years Get more sleep
1.0 years Cut back work hours
0.25 years Improve air quality
0.25 years Decrease caffeine intake
0.25 years Remove fast foods from my diet
0.5 years Remove sweets from my diet
1.0 years Get more exercise
1.0 years Decrease my LDL
0.25 years Decrease my diastolic blood pressure
Not too bad. I don't think any of these things will improve my longevity enough to warrant sweeping changes, but it looks like I'm on the right track.
That looks terrific, Riannan! All you have to do is leave work a little earlier and spend the extra time running home three days a week, and you get to be 94!
I'm glad you'll be around for some time - me: I didn't even get to take the test, they insisted I had to be 50yrs to enter... How could you (clearly not a day over 29!?) manage to get in???
