Scholiast, at Not Quite the Spectator Essays has challenged me and four other ex-friends to post our five weirdest habits. I tried to demur on the grounds that I have no habits at all, let alone weird ones, but she did not respond. Guess she's playing hard ball.
So I'll make up five things. Then I will alienate all my remaining bluddies.
Habit #1: I procrastinate. I can have something hanging over my head, and won't start on it until my palms start to sweat, my heart beats fast, and I know my fate is fast approaching.
Blogging enables this. I can always put something else on the back burner to blog, and I am always a whisker away from missing my self-imposed blogging deadlines. In fact, blogging has almost cured me of procrastinating, as my day is so full with work, blogging and ADLs (activities of daily living) that I don't have to procrastinate--I have no time to do anything anyway.
Habit #2: Diet in general. I love to cook, but that doesn't mean I always do it, or that I eat healthy meals. I have noticed a tendency to eat meals in the kitchen, off the counter. Even worse, dinner might be a piece of cake and a glass (or two) of wine. (note: picture on right for illustrative purposes only. It was not mine. I am not 80.)
Habit#3: I talk to animals. Just call me Dr. Dolittle. Actually, my primary mediums (?media) are cats, there being a plethora of them around here (two inside, three outside, if you must know.) And when I walk in they walk right in front of me (I have gotten used to the sudden stops), looking at me expectantly and meowing. I understand what they are saying to me. So is it any wonder that I talk back: "Have you been good?" "Did you finish shredding the ottoman?" "Did you leave any squirrel parts where I am likely to step on them?"
note: My register may go up a bit, but I do not talk baby talk to them.
Habit #4: I love earrings. I have pierced lobes, and two side holes in my left ear. Most of the time, I am stumbling out the door half asleep when I go to work, so the side holes don't get the attention they crave. That doesn't keep me from buying every pair of earrings I like, envisioning my lovely self wearing them. I have more earrings than I will ever wear, as in reality, I wear the same three pair all the time. (Actually more like two pair, as there are only two I can sleep in comfortably. A big plus.)
Habit #5: Web surfing. I touched on this in number one, but that was a different subheading. First, there are 6-7 blogs that I read daily. And another three or four that I check a couple times a week. And these blogs have links. I suspect you see where I am going with this. It is no accident that I read this blonde joke (twice, in fact), or that I know more about, well, Everything than anyone who knows me would guess.
And now, the painful part. I have to tag five (soon to be former-) friends to do this. Help me out, Fragile, Houston, Armaedes, and my regular hapless victims, Shawn and Lisa.
(No, that is not a picture of me.)
Well I don't ever do tags, sorry, but I promise not to stop being your friend. You have, however, inspired me to write a post about tagging, which I guess I'll post next week or something.

You know, if you're an ex-friend now I will have to cry myself to sleep for the remaining nights this year :(
I may well appoint you to my blogling, then :) Thanks for your response!
(I waited a bit, see, the strong, silent type!)
